Alex Robinson is a non-binary trans man who has experience teaching voice and doing music therapy with the LGBT+ community. They completed their internship at Snohomish County Music Project in 2018. Alex received their B.S. in Music Therapy with a double minor in Psychology, and Women and Gender Studies. While in his internship he started a community music therapy group for LGBT+ high school students and completed their internship project on music therapy with LGBT+ individuals. Alex’s internship focused on music therapy in community settings and included formerly homeless veterans, about 70 children who experienced trauma (individual, family and group settings), and various groups with teenagers.

Alex has spent the last two years working with homeless individuals in the Seattle area who experience mental illness and substance use. Prior to covid, Alex led a drop-in music group for individuals staying in a shelter, creating a safe space to connect with others and relax. Alex has spent the last six months outreaching women and gender non-conforming individuals who have severe mental illness and have barriers engaging with traditional mental health programs.

Alex strongly believes in harm reduction and trauma informed care. Alex believes that the cultural experiences and each person's community impacts how they interact with therapy. Therapy is not a one size fits all, and creating a space that accommodates and celebrates differences in the human experience is vital in nourishing client growth. Alex is pro-sex worker, kink friendly, polyamorous friendly, and neurodivergent friendly. Alex is a member of the non-monogamous, queer, and neurodivergent communities, and their intersections impact how they practice music therapy. Alex believes in exploring intersectionality and how it impacts clients. Therapy is often political because politics have real implications on people’s lives.

Alex has experience teaching voice, piano, and guitar. Alex has 12 years of experience in voice, 10 years in guitar and piano, and 4 years in violin. Alex writes music, accompanies other musicians, and pre-covid played in groups and performed.
